FIBA U23 Nations League: Uganda Squads For Hungary Assignment Revealed

Uganda is set to take part in the FIBA 3×3 U23 Nations League Final at the World Urban Games in Budapest, Hungary on September 13-15.

This, is a national team competition for men and women under the age of 23 which was launched in 2017.

Uganda will send both boys and girls teams at the world meet, The-SportsNation.com can confirm.

The two teams have been training at Indoor Arena in Lugogo since last week under coaches Nicholas Natuhereza and Hamza Nyambogo.

Uganda is expected to be flagged off on Wednesday, September 11, awaiting official communication.

The boys team is made up of intelligent UCU Canons point guard Fayed Baale, KIU Titans industrious guard Henry Okoth and City Oilers pair Jonathan Egau and Ivan Muhwezi.

Muhwezi returns to the tourney after being part of the Uganda team that participated in the second edition in 2018 in India. Mike Madol, Innocent Ochera and Derrick Isiko were the other members on the 2018 team.

In the girls category, usual suspect Rita Imanishimwe and JKL Lady Dolphins teammate Hope Akello headlines the squad. UCU Lady Canons’ pair of Sarah Ageno and Abbey Priscilla complete the four players.

Akello is the only player that returns from the 2018 team that also had Rhoda Naggita, Maimuna Nabbosa and Jane Asinde.

This will be the third edition of the annual event, with the first held in Sri Lanka in 2017.

Hungary (women) and Slovenia (men) won the first edition while France both categories last year.

Uganda is at this tournament after receiving a wild card from FIBA in both categories.
