Busoga United managed to win their first ever Jinja Derby in top flight with a 3-0 win against local rivals BUL FC at FUFA Technical centre in Njeru.

Three second half goals from Boban Zirintusa, Joel Madondo and substitute Lawrence Tezikya gave Busoga an edge against Peter Onen’s BUL FC in a game watched by a commendable crowd, including the U17 girls national team.

This was the seventh Jinja derby between Busoga and BUL, the first five meetings had ended in draws while BUL had won their home encounter last season 1-0.

The loss halts BUL’s impressive start to the season. The BIDCO sponsored side beat Express FC and Police FC.

Zirintusa, a new signing who previously played for Power Dynamos (Zimbabwe), Buildcon (Zambia) and Mohun Began (India) among others teams, slotted home from the spot after Ivan Wani was brought down by Ochora Walter in the 70th minute for referee Wilberforce Oloya to point to the spot.

Joel Madondo scored a season contender – He belted a half volley into the roof to give goalkeeper Abdul Kimera no chance in the 83rd minute.

Substitute Tezikya who had replaced Musa Magumba, put the game to bed in the added minutes with a low strike after beautiful work from left back Isma Kawawulo.

This is the second win for Abbey Bogere Kikomeko’s team in the ongoing season – They beat Bright Stars 3-1 on matchday three but had lost their two opening games against Tooro United and KCCA FC on the road.

BUL FC remain on six points.
