UCU Canons needed a commanding performance in the last quarter to stomp Betway Power and knot the series 1-1 of the best of five NBL Playoffs semis.

The Canons battled back to win game two 66-62 at the indoor Arena in Lugogo.

David Deng Dikong scored a game high 20 points and had nine rebounds while Isaiah Mabeny Ateer wasn’t at his best but squeezed in 11 points. Ateer struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 1-of-10 from downtown.

Veteran Isaac Afidra drained 16 points while Syrus Kiviiri and Fahmy Ssebatindira added 14 and 10 points respectively for Power.

UCU Canons had the crowd up with their sensational moves – including one where where Lual gained possession, found Fayed Baale who ally hooped off the glass for Dikong to score.

However, the UCU Canons bottled their lead when Betway Power recovered from 3-11 to lead 20-19 in the first quarter.

Power had the game in control for most of the game but the athletic Canons’ team, filled with tireless youths, crawled back.

Betway Power’s Afidra fouled Dikong who made both shots to tie the game 57-57 under three minutes to play in the last quarter.

Syrus later laid up but Dikong responded in better measures with a three pointer as UCU Canons took a slender 60-59 lead.

Trailing by two points with about 11 seconds on the clock, Betway Power’s Syrus lost possession and his chase down to Dikong never materialised as the flying forward dunked at the opposite end of the court to put the final nail in Power’s attempt to take a commanding lead in the series.
