Uganda U17: Devine Mirembe Delighted With National Team Call

Asubo Gafford Ladies right back Devine Mirembe has expressed her happiness after she was summoned to the Uganda U17 Women team.

Last week, Mirembe was one of the six new faces in a team of 35 summoned by Uganda Under-17 head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi for Cameroon encounter.

The 16-year old who joined Asubo Gafford Ladies from Gombe senior secondary school has said that she felt “extremely happy” when she was considered.

“It was a great feeling for me, my family, my club and my friends,” Mirembe told The-SportsNation.

“It is always a pleasure to get a chance of playing for your country, so when I was given a call by the coach, I felt so happy because it was another step into my football career.”

Mirembe also promised total hard work since the team is composed of very many talented and skilled players.

“I will double my efforts because being it that it is a national team and is filled with skillfull and talented players, total hard work is needed to show the coach what I am capable of doing it and enable him to believe in me and also keep my number safe on the team.”

“I also credit coach Ayub Khalifa for the opportunity, my coach at the club and my best friends who always encouraged me to continue working hard.”

Ahead of their match against Cameroon, Mirembe has revealed some of her targets.

“Firstly, World Cup qualifications, it is a dream for every player to represent her country on the world’s largest scene.

“Secondly, making a legacy as a team, it would be nice if we qualify and become the first Ugandan team to make that history.”

Uganda will host Cameroon between 30th October and 2nd November 2020 before a return leg in Cameroon in two weeks time.

The winner of two ties will qualify directly to the FIFA World Cup Under-17 in Mumbai, India.
