Tooro United have secured automatic promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the 2021/22 season after a one-year absence.

The ‘Entale Za Tooro’ booked a top spot after beating Kigezi Homeboyz 1-0 on the last day of the season at Wankulukuku stadium.

The result also relegate Kigezi Homeboyz to Regional League.

Marvin Oshaba, brought down in the area, converted from the spot to score the only goal of the game.

Tooro had on Wednesday fluffed the chance for automatic promotion after a goalless draw with Luwero United but managed to make amends on Sunday.

“It was not a simple game, the Visitors had no pressure like us but my boys managed to follow instructions and kept in character. It was not an easy season but am happy that I have fulfilled my goal,” said a happy Tooro United coach Edward Golola.

Oshaba missed the chance to double the advantage in the second half when he controlled in the area but skewed away his effort.

Kigezi also had an equal share of chances but were not up to the task – Dickson Niwamanya missed a keeper to beat while Edison Nkahenwa headed over with a goal at his mercy.

They finish top of Rwenzori Group with 31 points while Proline and Nyamityobora are the two teams that will vie for the playoff spots in the group.

Kigezi are joined by Terrazo and Tiles as the two relegated teams from Rwenzori Group.

In Elgon, Arua Hill earn direct promotion while Gaddafi and Blacks Power in playoffs.

The two relegated teams are Paidha Black Angels and Mbale Heroes
