Tennis: Uganda Sends Out Teams For Davis Cup, Africa Junior

The Uganda Tennis Association has confirmed two the teams that are representing the country at two different competitions.

The foresaid competitions are the Davis Cup and The Africa Junior Teams Championships.

Four players captained by Edward Odockcen, Troy Zziwa, Trevor Kazibwe and Allan Otto are already in Cairo for the Africa Junior Teams Championships due June 21st-26th June.

“We have arrived safely in Egypt.Troy Zziwa and Allan Otto were part of the Africa Junior Championships in 2019 morrocco and its good to see they’re making progress playing at an advanced level” confirms Edward Odockcen.

“Qualifying for such a tournament through the zonals we played at the start of 2020 means we have made alot of progress. The boys are fit and i believe they’re ready to put up a great display” he adds.

Besides that, five players captained by Joh Oduke, Simon Ayella, Boris Aguma, Frank Tayebwa and Edward Birungi have also arrived in Congo Brazaville to take part in the Davis Cup.

Ten Countries including Angola, Bostwana, Cameroon, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda

Uganda lost out to Rwanda in the 2nd 3rd place playoffs in 2019 Edition hosted in Congo Brazzaville.

UCU Mass Communication Student Edward Birungi and Elder Brother to Frank Tayebwa make debut for Uganda at the Tournament.

Teams will stay at the Grand Hotel De Kintele where movement is restricted to Courts and Hotel with the games to be played at Complex Sportif La Concorde De Kintele Brazzaville which hosted the 2011 All Africa Game.

Matches to be played on hard court, using the Wilson US Open balls.
