Wednesday, February 21

*Pakwach Youngstars 2-1 Wakiso Giants
*Calvary 1-4 URA

Uganda Premier League (UPL) side Wakiso Giants FC has been knocked out of the 50th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the round of 32.

The Purple Sharks couldn’t make it to the round of 16 at the expense of West Nile Regional League (third division) side Pakwach Youngstars who defeated them 2-1.

Wakiso Giants conceded two early goals, courtesy of first half goals by captain Vivian Onen and Francis Oduke for the home side at St.Mary’s Bar Omach Ground in Pakwach.

Despite the visitors’ late fight that saw them pull one back later on in the second half through Ssali, they still went on to lose the game that they failed to manage in the younger stages.

Pakwach Youngstars is now the fifth regional league side to qualify to this edition’s Uganda Cup round of 16, after Iganga Young, Dove, Pajule Lions and Young Simba.

The other teams at the round of 16 are; URA, Kitara, Police, Vipers, KCCA, Express, Bright Stars, BUL, NEC, Villa and Busoga United.

After Shocks And Narrow Escapes, Who is Still Standing?

As the Stanbic Uganda Cup reaches the most exciting stages of the competition, the tournament has already produced some exhilarating outcomes, and some shocking results!

It’s quite exciting to learn that there are more third division clubs left in the tournament, than second division teams.

Overall, there are ten top divisions teams now left in the competition, plus five regional league (third division) clubs, and just one FUFA Big League side left in the tournament!

In the League Cup round of 16, UPL have representatives in URA, Kitara, Vipers, KCCA, Express, Bright Stars, BUL, NEC, Villa and Busoga United.

Holders Vipers qualified to the round of 16 after enduring an intense penalty shout-out which they eventually won 5-4 on following a one-all draw with Rugarama.

12-times Uganda Cup winners KCCA beat Big League side Jinja North 2-0 to progress to the round of 16.

Joint-record Uganda Cup Champions Express (12) needed a late equaliser and post-match spot kicks which they won 8-7 at Wankulukuku to navigate past Western Regional League (3rd Div) side Rwenzori Lions to the competition’s round of 16.

Last season’s finalists BUL needed some very late magic to send the Jinja-based side into the Uganda Cup round of 16. BUL were fortunate enough to get a stoppage time goal that saw them register a 1-0 win over Kyambura in Ntungamo.
