Richard Makumbi: Lugazi Sack Head Coach

FUFA Big League side Lugazi is in immediate search for a new head coach following Richard Makumbi’s departure after just five months in charge.

“Lugazi FC announces that Head Coach Richard Makumbi has left his role at the club by mutual agreement,” the Leaders confirmed on Monday evening.

Makumbi just joined Lugazi in November 2023, replacing William Kyeswa who had been let go by the club citing repeated cases of indiscipline.

The ambitious Big League side purposely hired the ‘Promotion Specialist’ to spearhead their expeditious bid to play in the Uganda Premier League next season, but it’s now over between the two parties.

“The decision (to part ways with Makumbi) comes after a thorough evaluation of the team’s performance and future direction,” the club stated.

“Makumbi leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as head coach and our very best wishes for the future.”

Meanwhile, Assistant Coach Gerard Efit has been temporarily assigned to take charge of the team until Makumbi’s replacement is found.

Having found the club in sixth position on the table, it’s safe to say that the experienced tactician has left the club in a safe place, occupying the second of the three promotion slots.

Lugazi had collected eleven points from the six games they had played before Makumbi’s arrival, but he collected 26 more, and now leaves them with 37 – same as third placed Kataka; Lugazi have a superior (+8) goal difference.

Lugazi, after 20 games have accumulated nine wins, ten draws and just one loss so far this season – six points behind table leaders Police.
