SMACK League: Block Owners Consolidate Top Place

Block Owners remained top of the SMACK League Season Six after pulsating match-day five action on Sunday at Legends.

The League, sponsored by Guinness, saw a minute of silence observed before kick off of all 10 games in memory of the Pupils that were killed in Kasese on Friday night.

On an eventful day, E-Sports made its debut before Singer Vampino and a couple of DJs crowned the long day with thrilling entertainment.

Block Owners, class of 2002, squeezed past Gladiators to clinch a 2-1 win in one of the two opening games of the day.

Steven Ddungu put Block Owners ahead before halftime, before Edward Musimenta doubled the lead just at restart.

Gladiators were not going down without a fight and got one back through Adam Alesi thanks to Bruno Nyambiya assist, but it proved a little too late to get an equaliser.

The win sees Block Owners return to winning ways having drawn 3-3 with Bushmen the previous match-day.

The are top of the 20-team log with 13 points after five games, having beaten Tsunami, Maama Teo and Alks earlier.

And they will fancy their chances to win their first ever title this season having finished second last year.

This is the second loss for the Gladiators who lost to Cyclones 2-1 on match-day three.

In other results, Kiama remained without a win after a 4-2 loss against Cyclones, and the same can be said of Elite, Pirates and Knights who are also yet to move into the winning column.

Zimbaz beat Elite 3-0 to move second, leapfrogging Mafiaz, Lycans and Gladiators in the process.

Earlier, Vikings and Zulus were deducted six and three points respectively for fielding ineligible players.

It’s strong to note that Zuluz, Devils (2), Windows and Alks have ever won this competition before.

Now focus shifts to Match-day Six due Sunday, July 2 2023 hosted by Pirates.
