Charles Ayiekho is the new Crested Cranes coach

FUFA has announced the appointment of Charles Ayiekho as the interim head coach of the Uganda Crested Cranes.

Ayiekho will have the support of Eric Ndifuna and Olive Mbekeka as his assistants, and the entire technical team will work together for a one-month period, beginning immediately.

The other key members of the technical team include Stephen Kigundu (Goalkeeping Coach), Felix Ayobo (Fitness Trainer), Mable Kabatalindwa (Doctor), and Darlian Kyasiimire (Physiotherapist).

These appointments coincide with the team’s preparations for the 2024 CAF Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament’s second round, where they will face Cameroon.

Previously, Uganda successfully advanced past Rwanda in the First Round with a 4-3 aggregate victory under the guidance of Ayub Khalifa also as an interim.

Afterward, Abdallah Mubiru was offered a position as an assistant coach, but he declined.

When Ayub Khalifa returned, the team was eliminated from the Women’s AFCON Qualifiers by Algeria.

Ayiekho, a CAF A licensed coach, has had stints with Simba (Women), She Corporate (Women), Maroons, Busoga United, Nyamityobora, Soana (Tooro United), Rwenshama, Kirinya, Police FC, Bunamwaya among others.
