Scotland 161/3
Uganda 52/10
Scotland won by 109 runs

The Victoria Pearls’ second appearance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers began in a horrendous manner following their 109 run loss to Scotland on Thursday at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Scotland by virtue of being ranked 14th in Women’s T20i ( four places ahead of Uganda) began the game as favourites, but Ugandan bowlers were adamant to let the rankings dictate. But despite their wilful demeanor, this floodlights match got defined by a series of misfields and dropped catches.

The bowlers, mainly Sarah Akiteng, Immaculate Nakisuyi and former captain Consy Aweko had put up a competitive display, but were unfortunate to have lackluster fielders.

Sarah Walaza, Phionah Kulume and Evelyn Anyipo were the major culprits here. It was an agonizing sight for the fans as the trio made preposterous drops. Kulume alone had three to her name.

Aisla Lister who Walaza dropped at 1, and who benefited from two more drops went on to knock a half century of 55 not out.

Scotland went on to post 161/3 which in all sense ment a tough chase for Uganda to accomplish , and true to it, it ended inside the thirteenth Over.

The Europeans made light work of the East Africans’ Innings, bowling the side out with just 52 on board.

Opener Proscovia Alako, team captain Janet Mbabazi, wicket-keeper Kevin Awino and Walaza were all ducked. Only Kulume managed double figures (16).

It was one disastrous batting show, but unfortunately, one familiar to the fans. Scotland who also dismantled Uganda in 2018 in their first meet put the side out of their misery with the second ball of the 13th Over when Anyipo got caught and bowled by Abtaha Maqsood.

Uganda will take a rest on Friday and will hope to put this performance behind them before their game against the USA on Saturday.
