Muhammad Shaban scored his 15th goal of the season to help KCCA pick at least a point away to Bright Stars in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) match played at Kavumba on Thursday evening.

Shaban further extended his dominance on the UPL leading scorers’ chart, going two goals clear of the chasing pack, with Bright Stars’ Nelson Ssenkatuuka (13) the closest to him.

Maroons’ Fred Amaku, Express’ Isaac Wagoina and Kitara’s Dennis Omedi all have 12 goals so far.

After exactly half an hour played at Kavumba, Noordin Bunjo broke the deadlock to put Bright Stars in the lead at home, but the visitors equalised within the next five minutes.

Haruna Lukwago got his first goal for the Kasasiro Boys this season as he scored in the 35th minute to draw the tie level at Kavumba, finishing off a fine assist by Ettiene Katenga.

The first half of the game ended 1-1, but Bright Stars scored just two minutes after coming for the second half to get infront again.

Shafik Kakande made a brilliant run on the right flank and delivered the ball inside the opponent’s box for Ashraf Mulindi to score in the 47th minute, taking his tally to three so far this season.

The winger also scored Bright Stars’ only goal as they drew 1-1 with Express at Wankulukuku in their most recent game.

In the 76th minute, Mohammad Shaban scored to level matters for the visitors. Ashraf Mugume quickly started a short corner kick to Mustafa Kizza, who swiftly crossed for Shaban to head-in.

KCCA now displaces Maroons from 6th position, having gone level on 39 points with the Prison Warders, but the Kasasiro Boys have a superior (+3) goal difference. They have played 24 games in which they have won 12, drawn twice and lost 9.
